We’ve hatched! Uptown Birdies had a blast at our website launch party! We hosted our soiree at the beautiful Rio II Gallery space in Hamilton Heights on Saturday, June 10, 2017. There were crafts set up as well as an awesome photo booth complete with props. We got to meet and mingle with other Uptown families while showcasing some of our favorite local businesses.

Harlem Yoga was on the scene, leading the birdies in some stretches and meditation. Harlem Yoga offers kids yoga and childbirth education classes, in addition to adult classes. On Saturdays, their kid’s Yoga class runs simultaneously to the adult class – very time efficient.

Scribble Art Workshop came by to build a collaborative city with the birdies, each child painted, glued, and worked together to create a one of a kind work of art – a community effort, much like the work they do at their studio. Scribble art workshop has a summer camp complete with art, movement, and cooking! During the school year, they offer after school classes for birdies ages 2 and up.

Members of the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study (aka ABCD study) attended as well. Their study is aimed at unlocking how behaviors, like playing video games or playing sports, affect brain development in children ages 8-10. They spoke to the children about “brain hygiene” and played trivia games. Their study is ongoing and for parents looking to further understand their child’s development, as they claim to provide detailed insight.

We had a very talented friend on hand to paint faces. She even included our own birdies in the designs. As the fun drew to an end, we called out raffles winners for Breakaway Hoops, American Liberty Ballet (Harlem), and our upcoming Outdoor Adventure with Earth Living Skills! The kiddies collected their swag bags and headed outside where India Jolie – 6-year-old entrepreneur with her own icy cart – handed out gratis sweet treats for our guests! India Jolie works many events similar to ours, and her treats are a fun addition to a birthday or graduation party.

Our launch party served as a visual representation of our goals here at Uptown Birdies: to bring our community together, while showcasing the vast resources available to the families uptown. Our guests had a splendid time, and so did we. And we’re just getting started! Keep an eye on us, we’ll keep you informed of all the fun happenings uptown.

A special thank you to the friends and family that helped make this event special. Your hard work and support helped make our launch party successful!
