We are big fans of the New York Public Library! And not just because there are FREE books to borrow! Your modern day Library has adapted with the times: e-books, digital access, events and tech centers – even your library card can be used for multiple purposes! Your NYPL library card is free, and provides access to dozens of resources in Manhattan, The Bronx and Staten Island.

Do you want to learn Photoshop, or Illustrator? Have a kid that you are preparing to send to a creative arts school and want to build their portfolio? How about digital animation? There are several FREE Afterschool Programs and Internships at the New York Public Library. The Enrichment Zone provides Summer activities and homework help. The Literacy Leaders programs offers opportunities for children and teens: children in 1st and 2nd grade are offered reading help by pairing them with a teen volunteer; The teens (Grades 10, 11 or 12) can apply for the Literacy Leaders program in which they will earn an English credit towards graduation (in collaboration with the Department of Education) – and after the Fall internship is completed – they can apply to become paid employees of the NYPL! There are also college mentoring programs for high school students – a mentor can help you write your resume or narrow down your major. All of these programs can be found by visiting nypl.org/ost
