Uptown Ballet Academy
In-person @ 5030 Broadway, Inwood
Ages 3 – 13

Jackie Parrott opened Uptown Ballet Academy to share the joy of dance in Upper Manhattan and bring a high level of dance education to the neighborhood.  Emphasis is placed on developing dancers with a nurturing and disciplined environment for their dance studies. But they’re more than just ballet! The studio offers Boys technique, Contemporary, Tap, Musical Theater, and a conservatory program for experienced dancers. For in-person classes, the studio has taken necessary precautions. Jackie posted the following message on her website:

We are taking many precautionary steps to ensure the safety of our students and teachers.
All classes will be limited to 5 students in order to allow for social distancing.
Masks are required for all students and teachers at all times.
Our studio has 4 windows for ventilation.
We have installed a medical-grade MERV-13 air filter in our studio.

Uptown Birdies has had personal experience with this program and can say it is one of high quality! Most of Uptown Ballet Academy classes have begun but there are still spots available! Email uptownballetacademy@gmail.com to register!

Tap I, II, & III
Tap classes focus on tap fundamentals, footwork precision, coordination, and a sense of rhythm to make music with our bodies. The class will also incorporate some improvisation skills for dancers to build confidence and artistry.

Contemporary and Jazz
Starting at age 5, students will be introduced to contemporary techniques, as well as jazz and musical theater dance, emphasizing musicality and style. Classes in this category include: Creative Movement for 3-6-year-olds, Contemporary I for ages 6 & up, and Boys for ages 8 & up.

Theater
Theater Kids is for grades K-4. Children work on various activities to expand their social skills and explore our emotions – working together to create dances and scenes that are fostered with musical theater skills.
Musical Theater for grades 5-8, incorporates ensemble building games and scene study to encourage spontaneity and fun.
