As we shift into new modes of learning and interacting, many organizations have made the shift from physical classes and activities to online virtual learning. Here are a few local businesses that are sure to keep your kiddos productive and having fun!
These classes are going FAST! PONO is hosting high-quality virtual lessons taught by qualified, passionate instructors, and guaranteed small classes make all the difference. We love Ms. Steph’s Science Club! – part of Triple F Empowerment Inc whose mission is to inspire, empower and encourage young people to go into the STEAM fields. Ms. Steph’s Science Club has gone GLOBAL! When you purchase club access, you will be able to participate and learn science every Friday Afternoon, LIVE via zoom. You will receive a materials list 48 hours before class so your child can participate in real-time along with the teacher!
Biobus is continuing their science lessons online as well! First, they host a “Student Townhall” Every Thursday! Scientist pick and discuss a topic and students can submit their questions beforehand by visiting the site. This week’s discussion is on “How we get sick”. Also, they’ve begun their “Explore! At Home: Weekly Science Challenge” where you’ll watch a video and if you accept the challenge, complete tasks, and upload your findings! Science class is online!
Scribble Arts Workshop is taking their wonderful art classes online! Scribble Arts Workshop believes everyone is an artist and they seek to “bring the materials and methods that help students tap back into a primal maker self, a joyful artist who believes she or he knows how to make a thing of beauty.” Beautifully said. Classes are available for ages 2 to 10 and include sculpture, abstract art, and dollhouse design!
Harlem Yoga has always been dedicated to making yoga accessible, affordable, and welcoming to every BODY – now they’ve taken their practice Online! Offering Kids classes, as well as Open level and Advanced classes for Adults. They offer classes every day! Once you view their schedule and register for your course, you will be emailed a ZOOM link to join the class at the appropriate time.
Harlem School of the Arts has launched HSA@HOME! Group and private lessons are offered in a variety of fields: Hip Hop, Acting, Comic Book Illustration, Violin and so much more! For ages 2 and up. These classes are offered via ZOOM and password protected for security.
Uptown Stories is hosting their writing classes virtually. And they are already very popular – as I write this post, many of their classes are waiting list only. However, go sign up for an available class, or join a waiting list! Classes like “Girls Rising” or “Poetry Playground” are fan favorites, but the new aptly name “Quarantine Diary Project” might be a great, supported way for your kid to express their anxieties, disappointments, or even any excitement they may have around this time.
