For our kids, winter break couldn’t get here fast enough! As if they didn’t just have a week off for the holiday season!

The kids are out of school – Now get them out the house…See what’s happening below:

The New York City Park’s Department will host “Kids Week” with programs led by the Urban Park Rangers for mid-winter break. Kids will get to experience nature in a hands-on and fun way. Look for wildlife, learn survival skills and how to use a compass. Even learn about reptiles and amphibians! The week ends with a fun winter scavenger hunt. IT’S A PAINT PARTY! Join ABADA-Capoeira Bronx’s Cultural Arts Studio and celebrate the meaning of friendship! On Sunday, February 16 you can create your own original masterpiece to take home. Led by artist (and ACBX parent!) Quetzali. Age ages are welcome (accompanied by an adult) – $30 one canvas | $50 two canvases

Riverbank State Park is always a great place to enjoy multiple activities with the family. While it’s still cold out, enjoy ice skating at their rink. The Skating rink is open every weekend with two sessions: 1pm-4pm and 6pm-9pm. During the mid-winter break week, the rink has special hours: Monday to Friday 11am-2pm and 3pm-6pm. In between the sessions, the ice gets refreshed to provide a safe skating space for everyone. Admission to the rink is $5 per adult and $3.50 per child. Ice skate rental is $6 per person. Hex&Co Gameboard cafe is a fun, warm and invigorating way to spend time together! For $10 per Adult and $5 per child for unlimited gaming, you can enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, or even good ole Monopoly or Scrabble. Other favorites like Catan and Chess are also available. There is cafe with coffee, tea and snacks to keep you satiated and sharp – so you can fend off your opponent. Our advice: Get there early! The Museum of The City of New York has family programming all week! Beginning on Tuesday, February 18, the Museum will lead workshops based on their current exhibitions, art will follow: collage making, painting, etc. (so dress accordingly!) From learning about the history of basketball in New York City to designing your own museum.  All leading up to their annual community program ‘Black Futures’ highlighting self love and acceptance. There will be story time, a step workshop, doll making and scavenger hunt! The programs are geared to children aged 6 to 12. For museum information including hours and admissions, click HERE.
