At Camp Twelve Trails’ mission is to provide children the finest summer experience, with innovative programming and the highest level personalized staff supervision, while consistently maintaining affordability for all families. Each day campers are bused from all over Manhattan, The Bronx, and Westchester to their beautiful campsite on the Henry Kaufman Campgrounds. All campers swim twice a day during a recreational and Instructional swim period. Their program is built around 5 areas of interest that called Neighborhoods. Play (Sports & Fitness) , Create (Arts), Explore (Outdoor adventure), Discover (STEM), and Grow (Farm to table).  This concept allows campers to strengthen their skills in their favorite specialty while also encouraging them to explore new areas. Deep friendships evolve as they engage with others who share their interests, and campers begin to learn how to make positive confident choices.

The Inclusion Program at Camp Twelve Trails is a fully inclusive program for children diagnosed with cognitive, intellectual, and/or developmental disorders. As a collaborative team, their mission is to provide an inclusive environment that creates opportunities for enhancing developmental growth while fostering independence. At Camp Twelve Trails our campers are able to choose from different neighborhoods, allowing them to decide what types of activities they would like to participate in.

The Camp Twelve Trails Inclusion Program provides two levels of support, Level One and Level Two.
Level One serves campers with mild to moderate disabilities, who benefit from targeted support focusing on areas of deficiency throughout their day.  Our approach to addressing this is to provide the campers’ group with an additional counselor during these challenging times of day to decrease the camper to staff ratio.
The Level Two program serves campers with more severe disabilities, with whom are assigned additional counselors throughout the duration of their stay at camp.  While children in both levels of support are provided with an Inclusion counselor to support their unique needs, they travel with the general camp group throughout the entire day.

Staff members have prior experience working with children with disabilities and are required to go through extensive training to equip themselves with the tools they need in order to provide a safe, engaging and fun experience while being able to cater to the needs of each individual child.  To ensure that each and every camper has an enjoyable and successful summer, staff members collaborate with families on a daily basis.

We’re highlighting the special needs portion here as many parents have requested special needs camps. For more info on the general program, visit their site: www.camptwelvetrails.com
